HorseClaiming.com has been up and running for several months. Thanks to all those who have come aboard for our “maiden” journey into making the sport, game and lifestyle of horse racing more accessible. And relatable. And fun.
Oh, and if things go well on the track, you can make some money. Either from owning a “portfolio” of horses like we do, at a more modest dollar commitment level compared to many existing syndicates. Or, from wagering on the races.
If you’ve read any of my “investment manager/race horse owner crossover” articles on horse racing at Barchart.com, or my post here at HorseClaiming.com, including my guides to the game, “Hall of Claim” series and others, you know one thing: this is a fun way to engage in a sport that everyone knows about on the surface. But when they get to know it better, they find their own, personalized way to enjoy it.
To that end, when my partner in Claim to Fame Racing Club, a new race horse ownership syndicate we built with trainer Sam Wilensky to expand opportunities, access and enjoyment of the game beyond the traditional high-end crowd, I came to realize that Victor Collazo, a CPA these days, is not just my partner. As a former trainer and lifelong horseman, he can read a racing form like you’d expect accountant could - very well!
That doesn’t always translate to “winning picks,” but the fun of this game is just that. The game! So when Victor send me his Travers Day picks for Saratoga today, with a very fancy presentation to boot, I told him “I have to post this to the Substack site!” So here it is, for you entertainment and enjoyment purposes.
And, below “Vic’s Picks” you will find my own. A quick and dirty effort, I will say. But part of the expanded content I’ll be posting here very soon. Including telling the startup and ongoing story of our Claim To Fame Racing Club.
I hope you enjoy perusing this as much as we did creating it! And hey, if you do bet, bet responsibly, eh?
