Our Mission: Racing with the Lights On

Most people see horse racing from the grandstands—a blur of color, a roar of the crowd, and a bet that usually disappears into a “black box.”

My journey into US Thoroughbred racing started accidentally at Gulfstream Park on a Sunday in 2010. I had a few hours to kill, my mobile phone wasn’t what it is today, so I wandered into the track. In a way, I haven’t left since. I’ve learned to love watching from the rail, the restaurant, or during the early part of the pandemic, the parking lot (since that’s as close as you could get for a while).

I love the data in the racing form, and the adrenaline of the winner’s circle, which I was fortunate to find myself in several times during 2025, my first full year as a racehorse owner. I’ll talk about that experience quite a bit here.

But I also realized something:

The sport is at a crossroads. Good people want to get involved, but they are pushed away by a business that is traditionally opaque. Between “mystery bills,” hidden markups, and a lack of real communication, the barrier to entry isn’t the cost—it’s the confusion.

HorseClaiming.com was created to change that. We are a media and management platform dedicated to “Racing with the Lights On.”

Horse Racing Straight-Talk…in 4 steps

When you subscribe, you aren’t just getting “tips.” You are getting a front-row seat to the industry through four distinct lenses:

  • The Backstretch (The Stable): We share the daily life of being in the industry, and of horses we get familiar with. Health updates, workouts, and the “Grit over Glamour” reality of the morning rail.

  • The Business (The Books): We show you the raw math. No “nickel and diming.” We share the financials of the sport openly—the wins, the losses, and the ledgers—to prove that transparency is the only way for this sport to thrive.

  • The Game (The Claim): While this site is devoted to thoroughbred racing at large, we called it HorseClaiming.com for a reason. To us, analyzing the claiming ranks and spotlighting the “Good Stewards” who are doing things the right way is the best way to connect this dynamic sport with a new generation of fans…regardless of what generation you are part of. We are from middle-class values, and this site will make that quite clear. Racing has its own economic ladder, and we will certainly cover the upper end of the spectrum. But frankly, the biggest and brightest in the sport get plenty of excellent coverage, and deserving accolades and awards each year. Here, the focus is on horse racing’s middle class. And helping regular folks understand and enjoy the sport.

  • The Strategy (The Roadmap): We provide the roadmap for navigating the OBBBA (One Big Beautiful Bill Act) 2026 tax landscape and the Media-Business Pivot that turns ownership into a professional asset. We are NOT tax advisors, but as a media outlet, we’ll do our best to highlight some of the very attractive tax benefits of owning racehorses. Because in our view, it is a great opportunity, hiding in plain sight.

How We Are Different

We don’t just report on the industry; we live in it. The people connected to this site re owners, analysts, and fans. As Steve Jobs famously said, “People don’t know what they want… until you show it to them.” We are showing the world a version of horse racing that is as viral, transparent, and common-sense as any other modern sport.
