Owning a Racehorse: The Alternative to Alternative Investments
Applying an investor's eye to the track—because it’s a business, and it’s great entertainment.
There are very few sites truly devoted to the enjoyment, participation, and business of horse racing. I decided to change that because “starting” is what this game is all about.
Owners, trainers, and jockeys don’t earn a dime until that horse leaves the gate. You can’t win until you start. So, let’s start.
The Problem
For too long, horse racing has been a tale of two extremes. On one side, you have the glossy world of million-dollar pedigrees. On the other, a “black box” of opaque bills and insider jargon. The middle class of racing has been left out. For a professional looking for a transparent opportunity, the industry has often felt like a closed door.
The Solution
We’re opening the books.
Since retiring from running an investment firm in 2020, to focus on research and digital media, I’ve learned my way around the Substack platform. And the world of thoroughbred racing. My other site, ETFYourself.com, hit the “Trending in Finance” list at the start of 2026 because we built a community by stripping away the noise. I am doing the same thing here.
Shortening the Learning Curve
Horse racing is a classic, but admittedly quirky, business. I want to shorten the path for those who want to enjoy the sport without the usual confusion. This site is part journal, part blog, and part mission: to prove that you can have extraordinary entertainment without sacrificing common-sense logic.
The Goal: A Different Kind of Ownership
Ultimately, this site is a path toward racehorse ownership, in one of its many forms. Yes, we will soon have one end point in that process—a claiming partnership. But let’s be clear: it won’t be for everyone. We are certainly not the only ownership group in the country, but we intend to be the most transparent.
It is always free to learn here. We share a common interest in sensible ownership—built on a true understanding of what this is and what it isn’t. We are currently creating a roster of people who want to hear about that when it is ready to go.
To be blunt: this isn’t about a profit expectation, even though people can and do make money in this game. It’s about professional logic and extraordinary entertainment.
This site is primarily a straight-talking journey for those ready to move from the grandstands to a seat at the table. I wouldn’t have started this unless I thought there was a good chance to make the industry just a bit better, and more enjoyable.
I think you’ll like it here.
